Many times, clients have asked me how to modify the login screen so they can put their logo and have it linked back to the main page of the site. Normally, I would just go in and modify a few files and BAM….modified wordpress login screen. But it gets tedious and its not asked for very often, so I would have to go back an revisit a project and figure out what I had to do.

Recently, one of our team members brought something to my attention the other day that was really very cool and exciting. It was a way to add a custom wordpress login page to a theme. This was so simple I was amazed and I tried it our immediately and it worked beautifully. You can see it in action on our login page. You may be thinking to yourself “It isn’t that facy” and I agree with you. All we need to do is create one image file and we are done.

So I thought to myself, “why not add this to our conversions at no extra charge?” Seems like a good idea, so this will be included from here on out. Now you will be able to show your clients a login page with their logo, linked back to the main page and they will love you for it….trust me.

So how do you enter? It’s simple really. We want to get the word out about our new site and we would like you to post a little sumpthin’ sumpthin’ about our site and the service we offer. In return, one lucky winner will win a free conversion!

Or something like that or choose whatever you wish. In the above example you can link either “convert psd to wordpress” or “psd to wordpress” back to our site (you can’t use the above example as a post). Once you have made your post, come back to this post and make a comment that includes a link back to the post you created. Easy enough?!

We are looking for a minimum of 25 entries by January 18th. If we do not get 25 by the 18th, we will carry it over to the 25th and so on and so forth until we get 25 entries.

Even if your psd to wordpress conversion is simple or even if its a very complex design, including a theme options panel with every conversion, is one of the best ways we can help our clients manage the theme and increase ease-of-use.

There may be other companies out there that offer a theme options panel. Don’t be fooled! Having one or two options available to you just isn’t good enough for us. That’s why we have included some of the most important options we know clients are looking for.

Some of the key features of the Theme Options Panel we include in all of our conversions are:

• You can choose which pages you want to exclude from being shown in the navigation menu
• You have the option to display or hide the Bread Crumb Navigation above posts
• You can turn on or turn off Related Posts and set the amount of posts to show
• You can easily adjust the custom excerpts for posts, category, archive and search pages.
• Ability to adjust post thumbnail positioning, width and height
• You can adjust the alignment, width and height of the first image attached to a post
• Control the information in the footer
• Add Google Analytics

Of course we can modify the theme options panel to suit your needs and add or remove functionality. The control panel can be customized with video options, advertising options, rss subscription and the list goes on. The possibilities are endless.

Sure the default gravatars are fine, but to make your theme even more unique is the ability to customize your theme to your liking.

One way to do that is a Custom Gravatar.

The functionality is built into our psd to wordpress conversion framework already so all you have to do is create your image, upload it to the theme folder and log in as admin, go to “Settings” then to “Discussion” and select your custom gravatar. Easy as pie.

We also know that uploading and inserting images into a post or a page can be a tedious endeavor, especially for those who have never done it before. Which is why we have included a very nice image script called TimThumb!

Seeing as how we do not like to use plugins, we had to come up with a way to add the TimThumb functionality to our psd to wordpress conversion framework and we did just that. All you have to do is upload one image to a post and the theme will automatically grab that image and insert it for you. The best part is you can control the image width and height as well as whether it is aligned to the left or aligned to the right. All from the comfort of the Theme Options Panel that is built in. If you do not have an image for a particular post, our conversion framework is designed to show a “default” image. Look at the image for this post. We decided not to attach an image associated with this post and let the default post image for our site show. Snazzy huh? Yeah we know.

Now if you are going to use multiple images for posts, then you have to upload them, insert them and select the alignment you want manually.

So we decided to find a way to automatically have this option in our psd to wordpress conversion frame work, which is what we did. Any conversion that we do will automatically show any related posts.

And we have taken it one step further and that is giving you the option to turn on or turn off this feature as well as how many related posts you want to show!

If you would like to see an example of the Related Posts functionality, simply look at the bottom of this post and you will see it in action. It is displaying 5 related posts.

Wikipedia defines Breadcrumb Navigation as:

Breadcrumbs or breadcrumb trail is a navigation aid used in user interfaces. It gives users a way to keep track of their locations within programs or documents. The term comes from the trail of breadcrumbs left by Hansel and Gretel in the popular fairytale.

Why is breadcrumb navigation important? Good question. Breadcrumb navigation offers two benefits:

• They allow users to navigate a site more easily
• They allow the search engines to easily figure out your site structure.

So we decided this should be something that is included in convert psd to wordpress project. Now we know that not all sites will like to utilize this feature so we have given the option to turn this feature on or off in the Theme Options Panel, depending on your clients preferences.

Time and time again during some of our convert psd to wordpress projects, we have run into situations where the client asked us to modify this to suit their needs, so we felt that it was time to include this into our psd to wordpress conversion frame work.

Not only will you have the ability to control the amount of words that are shown in an excerpt, you will also have the ability to control the amount of words shown on the Site Map page!

By adjusting the amount of words being shown, you can control the look and feel of your site and fine tune the settings until you are satisfied. All of this is controlled in the Theme Options Panel.

What exactly is Page Navi navigation? Page Navi navigation replaces the default “Older Entries” and “Newer Entries” navigation that is shipped by default with WordPress.

This awesome feature is a plugin created by Lester Chan, but here at convert psd to wordpress we hate using plugins.

We have recently devised a better function for paged navigation. The code is smaller and so is the css. You can see it anywhere on our site.

Utilizing to many plugins can slow down your site dramatically, so we found a way to “hard code” the plugin directly into our psd to wordpress conversion framework.
